Health Clinics

The Pennsylvania United Medical Association (PUMA), under its second five-year agreement with the Social Welfare Council of the Nepalese government, is currently serving the most rural villages in the country of Nepal as an International Non-Governmental Agency. Under this agreement PUMA has established four (4) full-time medical clinics that provide medical services to some of the very remote areas in Nepal.

These clinics provide lab work, prenatal care, de-worming and many many other vital health services to many many thousands of people. Other services we provide in these rural areas include the distribution of mosquito netting and health education through the health clinics. Additionally, PUMA often assists villages by providing new wells and clean water projects

Periodically each year, PUMA brings western medical teams for special health programs in which medical specialists work side by side with the Nepalese staff. Areas of medical care include gastroenterology, gynecology, obstetrics and ultrasound, and physical therapy.

PUMA has been offering health care services in the districts of Lamjung, Tanahu and Gorkha since 2001.

In the years 2011 and 2012, PUMA’s medical clinics treated over 36,000 people.
